Melissa & Noel

photography by sharitucker.com

Melissa and Noel were married in 2008. We loved this wedding! We arrived in Nova Scotia the day before to help out and were invited to the rehearsal dinner with the family. How sweet is that? What an amazing group of people! Melissa did a fantastic job of planning and organizing this wedding. She hired Kiss The Bride to coordinate the day. All of the details were planned to perfection. Their colours were red & black and they had a beautiful monogram designed which appeared everywhere. The venue had a big screen TV mounted on the wall which displayed this monogram, it was a very nice touch.

The bouquets were red roses. The guest tables were dressed with centrepieces filled with red roses, black table runners and candles. The guest favours were home made chocolate chip cookies (the bride's specialty) in a white box wrapped with black satin ribbon and sealed with their monogram. Yum.

Many thanks for having us and best wishes to Melissa and Noel!

Happy St Patrick's Day!

Green is already one of my favourite colours this season.
These photos are some of my favourite ideas to incorporate green into a wedding or event. Happy St Patrick's Day!

Q&A

So I posed the question "if you could ask a wedding coordinator anything, what would it be?" out into cyber space and got two questions in return. Here are my answers.

How do you compromise on a small wedding that the groom wants and a big wedding that the bride wants?

The first step is to determine why he wants a small wedding and why you want a big one. What are your reasons? Then, if you can bring elements of those answers into the wedding the actual size of the event may not come into play as much. It may be easier to compromise as it's not just big vs small. Maybe he doesn't like being the centre of attention - you can make changes to a larger wedding to address that concern. Maybe you have always dreamed of a fairytale - you can bring those details into a smaller wedding. You only get one shot at making this day perfect (or as close to it) as possible, so of course both of you need to be content with how it plays out. :)

Whats your favourite part of the job?

Most people, when they learn I am a wedding coordinator say the exact same thing: "oh that would be so fun! I've always wanted to be a wedding planner." It's a pretty standard response in all honesty. Of course reality is, I am not Jennifer Lopez and the job of a wedding coordinator is different than TV movies (at least not as glamorous) so I think a lot of people have a misguided opinion of what my job is like. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy what I do very much - which brings me to the answer of this question...my favourite part about this job is the connection I have with my clients. I get to be a part of their day in a different way than anyone else. I get to know them as well as their family on a level that can't compare to the relationship between most professionals and their clients. There is something to be said about the relationships that form after months of planning, hours of talking, and the roller coaster ride of emotions one goes through on their wedding day. I am right there with my clients throughout the entire journey. To be the engineer of an important event like that is an honour.

If you have a question, feel free to ask anything you like, you can email me, post your questions on here, ask on twitter or our facebook fan page. Cheers!

Why Blog?

I've been asked a few times recently, "why do you blog?". With so much stuff on the go - bridaltweet, twitter, facebook, linkedin - blogging too? Actually, blogging is more enjoyable than any of the other social media outlets for me. It's basically an online journal. Why would anyone be interested in what I have to say? Maybe they aren't, BUT maybe they are! There are tonnes of blogs out there. Many "how to" blogs, blogs about weddings, blogs by wedding planners and other vendors. They are all, for the most part, fantastic!!

What do I have to offer you ask? Well, aside from my own personal experience, my personal opinions, thoughts and ideas - I can safely say that in this neck of the woods (be it the Atlantic Provinces) there are not a lot of blogging wedding coordinators. So, I speak from my experience in the Maritimes with couples and vendors from New Brunswick, P.E.I., and Nova Scotia. Can the blogger in New York, Australia or London speak to the concerns, traditions, trends, style or weddings in this part of Canada? Not really - but I can!
That is the answer to the question folks. :)

A Timeless Tradition

photo from bride.net

The timeless tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" has been around since the Victorian Ages. It's fascinating to me that such an age old tradition is still kept so near and dear to a lot of today's modern brides! Here's the history on this tradition from http://www.squidoo.com/weddingtraditions!

Something Old - Something New - Something Borrowed - Something Blue... And a Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe!

"Something Old" symbolizes a link to the bride's family and the their past. The item most often will be a family heirloom, that the bride will wear or carry on her wedding day. Perhaps a piece of jewelry or a hanky from Grandma...The bride may also choose to wear a family member's wedding dress to honor and represent an old object. "Something New" represents good fortune and success, for a wonderful new life. A bride may choose to say her shoes are new or use her wedding gown as the new item. Many choose to wear a new piece of jewelry. That can be handed down as Something Old upon a one of their future children's weddings. "Something Borrowed" symbolizes the love and support of family and friends in times of need. A borrowed object can be a token from friend, such as a lace handkerchief. Again a wonderful piece of jewelry, to be used just for the day.

Something Blue" is an object that symbolizes faithfulness and loyalty. Most brides will choose a blue garter or ribbon. Many have blue added to their flowers...

"A Silver Sixpence In Her Shoe," is a blessing for wealth.

I enjoy learning where the traditions of today came from. Of course in 2010 and beyond the possibilities are endless where incorporating this tradition is concerned. There's nothing I love seeing more than my brides personalizing their day with personality!

Canadian Pride

It's been a busy few weeks at Kiss The Bride. We've had a case of Olympic fever! We've been following the games throughout and I just wanted to post a quick bit about how proud we are of our athletes! Canada has broken so many records, surpassed their goals and exceeded expectations throughout these Olympics and we couldn't be more happy or proud!

Way to go Canada!!
